Day 3. Ish.

Thus far, I havent managed to excersise. Getting there though. Been hanging out with friends around work since I was gone and that cut severely into my sleep. However, I am setting a bedtime for myself since rumor has it that sleep is good. Aiming to be in bed around midnight consistently, and up at seven.

Dietwise, things still looking good except one hiccup: I bought Pizza Hut yesterday. Found out a orange and a water at work is less then $2 though, so a healthier snack at about 1/3 my usual cost. Outside a Starbucks drink I pounded Tuesday morning before work (on two hours of sleep), I still havent had any soda or energy drinks.

Slow start, but a positive one. June is going to be a rough month for several personal reasons, and I plan on keeping myself busy and distracted by working out.

Day 1 - Why Agoge?

For a long while, or atleast since Halo: CE came out back in 2001, I have had a amateur interest in ancient Spartan history. As such, I have read a few books on the Spartan training regime called the agoge. wikipedia defines agoge as "was the rigorous education and training regimen mandated for all male Spartan citizens...".

While I wont pretend to get as intense as they did, I am inspired by it and thought it a fitting title for my blog.

Not long ago I hit my heaviest weight I've ever had. I got complacent with my tax return, eating out more and drinking much more often then I used to and the scale showed the damage that was done. My feet hurt more at work and its harder to get back around. I'm at a age still that whipping myself into shape should be relatively easy, and I know that i will be grateful for it later.

Thus far, I've cut soda and energy drinks out of my diet. It was difficult to stay awake without the crutch, but its already showing improvement. Next I cut back on my drinking, something I was planning on doing anyways. Finally, diet wise, I will try to eat in as much as possible and do my own cooking with simple foods.

As for excersise, I have all sorts of ideas. First, I want to actually finish Insanity this summer. Supplementing that will be other work outs. I've been subscribed to Mens Health for about two years, and each article features workout ideas as well as good cooking ideas.

This blog will try to be daily, chronicling my journey into getting shape. No idea how many people will read it, but its mostly for my sake anyways >.<
